Rip Success Story

This picture-perfect puppy is Rip. He is a 4-month-old Labrador Retriever who came to see our team for vomiting and decreased appetite. Dr. Roche immediately recommended radiographs to see if Rip ate any foreign material. Unfortunately, our team did see possible foreign material in Rip's intestines and suggested we perform surgery to explore and remove the foreign material. In surgery, Dr. Roche successfully removed a hard object from Rip's intestines, which turned out to be a squeaker toy. Rip recovered quickly from surgery and was back to his playful puppy self shortly after waking up. He went home to his family the following day and will hopefully only be eating his food and treats!

This can be a common occurrence in our pets, especially puppies. The best way to keep your dog from ingesting foreign objects is to take preventative measures. For example, if you know your dog is prone to eating certain items, then eliminate access. You may also want to consider pet insurance if you have a pet that eats toys. Insurance can relieve some of the financial burdens that can come with emergency room visits and the cost of surgery, if necessary.
